GHD : A Brief History

It’s hard to imagine a hair straightening industry without GHD, but it is a relatively young company. Founded in 2000 by Martin Penny, GHD developed and sold only one type of hair straightening iron, but with it’s advanced pioneering technology it revolutionised the process of straightening hair. Only eight years later GHD is now a house hold name and it’s straightening irons are the standard all others are compared to.

In 2001 the GHD brand was young and still pretty much unheard of. It was only when it became popular with the celebrity market that the company began to expand. Used by the likes of Jennifer Anniston, Gwyneth Paltro, Cameron Diaz and Madonna, they soon became a fashion icon.

Helped by a intensive worldwide marketing campaign GHD was awarded the ‘fastest growing company’ by the Sunday Times in 2005 and had staggering success not only in the UK but throughout Europe, the USA, and Astrailia.It was also about this time that GHD first launched their limited edition Hot Pink Styler where a potion of the price is donated to breast cancer charities.

Now in 2008 GHD have produced their forth incarnation of their straightening iron: the ‘IV’.
